About the Event

Summer Dance Classes with SteLi!

Join us on August 20th from 5 PM to 9 PM for an evening of dance classes taught by some of SteLi's original dancers! These classes will not only provide a wonderful opportunity to learn from our seasoned performers but will also help raise funds for our upcoming season—our 5th anniversary as a company!

CLASSES:

5pm Contemporary-Fusion with Destiny Pino

6:20pm Street Jazz with Lian Kizner

7:40pm Commercial Choreography with Derron Thomas

TICKETS:

Single Class $15

All 3 Classes $30

All classes are open-level classes, whether you are an expert in the respective style or exploring new styles, come join us! Each class is one hour and 15min including a warm-up, there will be a 5 minute break between classes.

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY - we will be starting promptly. Come dance with us as we gear up towards our company milestone!

5:00pm Contemporary-Fusion with Destiny Pino

Bio: Destiny Pino (she/her) is a Brooklyn-raised dance instructor, performer, and choreographer. As a dancer, she has trained with and performed works by some of NYC’s most eclectic choreographers such as Alexandra Beller, Mark Morris, and Nic Kay. After obtaining her Dance BA from CUNY Lehman College in 2019, she joined SteLi Dance Company and continues to explore her artistic voice through teaching, performing, and choreographing for studios, universities, and dance companies within the NY/NJ area. As an educator, she has taught dance at Columbia University, Tropical Image Dance Company, Mark Morris Dance Center, Studio Diva, The Pennington Studio, Dansations School Of Dance, and Performance Studios. Destiny is trained in and teaches various styles of dance including but not limited to Latin, Contemporary, Modern, Lyrical, Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Vogue, House, and Improvisation.  Her works are inspired by a medley of these dance forms and her ultimate goal is to inspire her students to embrace their individuality and take their artistry to the next level.

Class Description: This open-level contemporary class is an exploration of movement and intention. Beginning with warm-ups, across-the-floor progressions, and improvisation, and concludes with a dance combination to “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish.

6:20pm Street Jazz with Lian Kizner

Bio: Lian Kizner (she/her) is a dancer and choreographer who debuted 19 years ago at Studio E in Queens. Kizner’s keen eye for character interpretation and direction earned her the Choreography award from Lehman College in 2019 before they invited her to choreograph for their department. Since graduating, Lian co-founded and is the artistic director of SteLi Dance company, which leverages its platform to contribute to both the creative canon and invest in community equality efforts. Some of her choreographic credits include Kraine Theater, Dixon Place, IATI Theater, The Players Theater, the streets of NYC, and more. In 2021, Lian debuted, “Negiot,” her first independent dance film as a Producer, Creative Director, and Choreographer. She is currently the company manager of Dancers Unlimited. Lian has a deep passion for the arts and exploring the beauty of the human experience through connection, listening, and mind-body oneness. In 2024, Lian was chosen as a dance resident for Camino al Arte in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She was also accepted into WADE Dance HUB: Italy for the summer of 2024, where she worked with Vangeline, founder of the New York Butoh Institute, and Adriano Popolo Rubbio of Komoco Dance Company.

Class Description: This class will include a warm-up and choreography combining jazz and hip-hop dance styles to an upbeat song. Sneakers optional

7:40pm Commercial Choreo with Derron Thomas

Bio: Derron Thomas is a Harlem native, lively and artistic dancer with 5+ years of creative, choreographing experience and 10+ years experience of performance. He is a multi-talented professional dancer with a background in Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, and Liturgical dance. He currently holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Theater. “Dancing is second nature and I use it to communicate with my body to express what is too deep to find for words.”

Class description: This class will include a mixture of genres such as hip-hop, modern, Afro, jazz, etc., requiring personality, versatility, uniqueness, and fun.
